Coxa Ltd.Hospital for joint replacement patient
Coxa Ltd. is specialized in cutting and treating joint replacement patients for the cititzens in the Hospital District of Pirkanmaa according the annual agreement. The Hospital also offers services in a nationwide scale, for the public sector and for the persons who are paying treatments by themselves. Surgeries are made between 2600 and 2800 a year.
In the future it might be possible that patients are allowed by the law to choose where they want to go to hospital and if that happen Coxa is optimistic that it will expand their operations area to more nationwide level.
The Company started 2002 in the area of Tampere University Hospital. Annual turnover of the company is approximately 28million in Euros and they have 150 employees. Surgeries are made between 2600 and 2800 in a year.
Background of the establishing a management system
Coxa has been certified by the ISO 9001:2000 standard that requires a quality management system where operation (processes, indicators etc.) is described. Back in the days they established an electronic system to do so, but soon it became clear that it didn’t cover operations in large enough extent and they needed a better system.
Why they chose IMS management system platform?
Coxa and IMS Business Solutions Ltd. had been done cooperation before and after being in a few info sessions they got a positive image of the platform. It seemed that IMS system could have been use effectively in their working environment.
In Coxa they were described their processes before but with IMS they were able to expand also the descriptions of the indicators and reports, to name a few. Extremely ease of use was also a crucial factor when choosing a new management system.
Getting started with the system
Implementation began in August 2009. “Our purpose was to build an innovative system that can be understand with the common sense and use as an effective tool everyday” clarify Tuula Rantala, director of nursing.
Physical therapy department was the first to use IMS system and from there the system were taken throughout the hospital. According to Rantala each employee uses the system and training is provided when needed. “All of the information, instructions and forms can found on the system and every employee is required to use it” continues Rantala.
The System was built by the employee from the scratch in order to create the best possible solution for them. Rantala says that the ease of use of the system has inspired the staff to use and develop it actively. In order to manage the system one needs not to be an expert in the IT industry, but with the little of induction everyone can master it.
What Coxa does with it?
IMS is an integral part of everyday work in Coxa. For example they measure patient quantities per a nurse in daily levels in order to work as close as possible to optimum level in order to give best possible treatment to their patients.
One of the Coxa’s values is openness and according to Rantala IMS has reduced uncertain information and guessing the level of their operations, because they have tools effectively measure and monitor their functions. Each employee can go and see how they are doing and in what sectors they still can improve their work.
What is the best part of IMS?
In Coxa clear indicators is valued, which is used to measure daily activity. IS 9001 standard also requires that organization has an archive system where old versions of documents etc. can be found if necessary. With IMS one can find and view older version easily.
From the beginning the IMS system is made to serve Coxa’s needs as great extent as possible. The system was built by a physiotherapist and that was a good proof of ease of use of the system. According to Rantala good visual look of the system is also a one of the most important parts of it.
Future
IMS is seen as an integral part of the Coxa’s actions in the future and the goal is that all the information systems support each other, which enables to take activities further. “System development and forward movement is a life-long work, because it needs to be modified to correspond the current levels of action. The use of the system is as simple as browsing internet and that motivates to use it actively” says Rantala.
